An investigation undertaken by Which? has revealed that many companies who are offering to fit child safety seats have been doing so incorrectly and therefore putting lives in danger.

During the investigation which comprised of visiting 42 different stores, Which? researchers went under cover as the parents of an 11 month old baby and asked the targeted retailers to fit two different types of car seat. The findings stated that some of the companies they visited are responsible for serious safety failings and that some fittings were so bad that they could be putting children in ‘serious danger’ and that all stores had room for improvement.

Children’s Lives At Risk On The Roads According To Which?

The companies who have been deemed responsible for these failings have said that they will be looking into the problem in more detail. Smaller stores were less guilty of the poor fittings than the larger retailers according to the reports. Richard Headland is the editor of Which? He said that it was ‘unacceptable’ that such a ‘shockingly poor’ service was being offered to
customers and putting children at risk.

The report highlighted several different errors that they found in their investigations, these include a lack of training for people whose job it was to fit the seats; not enough time was spent explaining how to fit and use the seats to customers; many of the stores did not ask the correct questions concerning the age and weight of a child.
