Karin Williams, 50 years old and from the Vale of Glamorgan, worked as a lollipop lady helping children from Rhoose Primary School cross the road everyday.

One particular day an out of control vehicle swerved onto the side of the pavement where the children were waiting to cross and was heading in their direction. On seeing the collision that was about to happen, Karin jumped in front of the children to protect them and took the brunt of the force from the car as it crashed into her.

Injuries Suffered In Car Accident

Following the accident, Karin’s injuries emerged as two broken knee caps; a broken elbow; a swollen face and a broken shoulder and she had to have 8 hours’ worth of surgery.

She uses a walker to help her get around the house and sometimes needs a wheelchair.

Honoured For Bravery

The award which Karin collected was an acknowledgement of her selflessness and heroic bravery in the incident. The whole of the awards ceremony is designed to recognise people for acts of bravery throughout the UK and is backed by a host of stars as well as Prince Charles.
