A group of 70 bikers got together last week to remember a well-loved friend and fellow motorbike enthusiast who died in a motorcycle accident in April last year.

Mike Ellis, workshop manager for a side car company, Watsonian Squire, based in the Cotswolds, was killed when a lorry reversed into him while he was test driving a motorbike.

Rob jones, who is general manager of Watsonian Squire said: “We were all able to ride past where Mike is buried.” He added: “We are all very pleased that people not only enjoyed it but it was safe day as well.”

The 90 mile run raised £500 for the Mike Ellis Memorial Fund as well as raising an overall awareness for a campaign called RearView.

Motorbike Accident Prevention Campaign

The RearView campaign calls for changes in the law to commercial vans, trucks and lorries. Campaigners want new rules in place requiring these vehicles to have reversing technology fitted in an effort to stop accidents happening.

Motorcycle Accidents

Think Bike! is another initiative aimed at reducing the amount of motorcycle accidents. It encourages all road users to remember there are motor bikers on the road and to look out for them.

Motorcyclists are often more susceptible to road traffic accidents than others and they are more likely to suffer fatal or serious injuries as a result.

Often other road users like lorry and car drivers do not look out for motorcyclists when turning and do not check their mirrors before pulling out. Sometimes motorbike accidents can occur because of defective roads which is the responsibility of the council and of course, some motor bikers can be responsible for accidents themselves.
