Pothole Plea From Motoring Group

A survey carried out by the Institute of Advanced Motorists has shown that local authorities want to cut road accidents by addressing the issue of potholes on the roads.

1,117 councils responded to the survey conducted by the IAM and many declared that potholes were a priority. They also cited other general road safety improvements as a main concern as well as the need to encourage the use of public transport. Feedback also indicated that a lack of funds due to government cuts would also impact on the feasibility of repairing the roads.

Pothole Website And App

A website named Fill That Hole, set up by cycling charity, CTC was originally started to get cyclists to inform local authorities about potholes. The reach of the site has now extended to other motor vehicle users and the Department of Transport has now offered a cash injection into the project.

Gordon Seabright, the chief executive of the CTC, said the government’s contribution of £30,000 will allow the organisation to spread its reach to more cyclists and road users.

Robert Goodwill, MP said the App will allow more opportunity for people to report potholes but added that a long-term perspective was needed in the fight against potholes.
