Road Safety Charities Take Formula One To Task Over Links With Alcohol Industry

Formula One teams could see their sponsorship deals being removed and costing them millions of pounds in lost revenue every year. The possible new action has served as a reminder as to what happened to tobacco companies a few decades ago when they were prevented from sponsoring sporting tournaments like snooker.

The charities, which comprise of both safety organsiations and anti-alcohol groups throughout Europe, have also expressed their dissatisfaction at the prospect of FIA (Federation Internationale L-Automobile) boss, Jean Todt, becoming a special representative for road safety at the UN.
