New reports from a breakdown company reveal that Hertfordshire County Council has a poor track record when it comes to pothole damage.
Britannia Rescue who conducted the survey revealed that there had been a growing number of compensation claims in relation to pothole damage in the county.
Managing Director of Britannia rescue, Peter Horton, said that the pothole epidemic in the UK is down to underinvestment in the roads adding that harsh winter weather had compounded the situation.
Traffic Levels Are Higher In Hertfordshire
In response to this information a spokesperson for the highways at HCC, Terry Douris said that traffic levels and the size of the road networks were not taken into consideration when the comparisons were reported.
He added: “Hertfordshire County Council is the busiest county in the country and our roads are under incredible pressure. We have a network of more than 5,000 km and very high traffic levels, with millions of car journeys and 2.5 times the national average of lorries using our roads.
Mr Douris also said that because of this the roads are more expensive to maintain and they ‘wear out quicker’. He added that there was continual investment and millions of pounds was spent every year on preventing damage.
Pothole Accident Claims
Potholes on the roads can cause a lot of different vehicle accidents which give rise to a number of different personal injuries. Whiplash claims and claims for head injuries are two common kinds of injury experienced in a car accident.
These injuries can leave victims in pain and sometimes, unable to work. A compensation fee covers expenses you have had to pay for in relation to your injury, e.g. medical equipment and it will also take into consideration any loss of earnings you have endured.
