Five children were taken to hospital following a bus crash in Scunthorpe last Friday morning.
According to police reports, a double decker bus collided with a Peugeot 206 as the bus was making its way to Baysgarth School in Barton-Upon-Humber.
Immediately following the crash, Humberside Police were called to the accident scene. A spokesperson for the police said: “Five children on the bus sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The injuries are all believed to be minor in nature.”
Teachers from the school were also present soon after the accident to collect pupils. Parents were contacted as soon as possible to discuss whether or not children should return home to recover from the shock of the accident.
Head Teacher Confirms Hospital Check Overs
Colin Saywell said that he could confirm five children aged between 12 and 15 from the school had been taken to hospital to get ‘checked’ over’. Some of the children attended Hull Royal Infirmary while others went to Scunthorpe General Hospital.
Mr Saywell continued: “One is still being kept in Hull Royal Infirmary for a closer check by medical staff but the rest are back home.
He said that all other passengers on the bus were at home or at school recovering from shock and that aside from some bumps and bruises, everyone is fine. The driver of the car is also said to have been uninjured in the accident.
Mr Saywell thanked police and school staff for their quick reactions to the incident.
The mayor of North Lincolnshire, Councillor Peter Clark said that he was pleased the injuries were only minor and that all the pupils that were on the bus when the accident happened must have been in shock too.
Road Traffic Injuries
There are a range of injuries, both major and minor that can be sustained in a road traffic collision. Quite often, passengers or drivers will have no symptoms of whiplash imeediately following a crash but pain can develop later.
The pain of a whiplash can vary in intensity and it is advisable to visit your GP as soon as you can if you are concerned about any pain. Although it may seem like a minor injury, suffering whiplash in a bus or car accident can be debilitating. In some cases it can mean suffering long term pain and physiotherapy treatment. It can also mean you have been unable to work in some cases.
Other injuries may include broken bones, bruised ribs or head injuries. Even if you think your injury is too minor to claim for it is worth finding out for certain from a personal injury lawyer.
You have three years from the date of your injury in which you can make a claim so it is advisable to contact an accident claims specialist as soon as you can.
