Controversial Road Safety Campaign Sparks ‘Disgust’

A television advert created by the Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland has triggered anger about its graphic content.

make a motorcycle injury claim

The advert features footage of young children leaving their busy classroom to go to the park for outdoor activities. While the children are exploring the outdoors a man is getting ready in his home nearby, ready to drive in his car.

The next scene shows him lose control of his car on the bend close to where the children are and crash through a gate and squash them while they are sitting down on the grass. The scene is set with background acoustic version of ‘Sweet child of mine’ by Guns and Roses. After the car has rolled over the area and the children the voice over says: “Since 2000 speeding has killed a classroom of our children. Shame on You.”

Strong Criticism From Viewers

The advert was released this month and it has received staunch criticism comments from people on social media. One comment reads: “ The new #DOE road safety advert, with awful visuals married to a POP SONG, is abhorrent & gratuitous. Please pass on to #DOE.” And another says: “I have just seen the DOE road safety advert. What a disgrace. No need to use such hard hitting footage to get that message across.”
