Road safety action is being sought by members of a local community in Tunbridge Wells in an attempt to cut down vehicle accidents.

People living close to a junction in the town say that road traffic accidents are waiting to happen because of the busy junction where there is currently no provision for safe turning, according to residents.

The residents say that turning right out of the junction is almost impossible as the speed of oncoming traffic is so fast. Mr Ahmed is one such resident who says that Kent County Council Highways needs to take action as soon as they can to prevent accidents on the road.

Mr Ahmed, who lives close to the junction, has started a petition to install traffic lights, making it easier for drivers to turn right. He said: “The other day I was only inches away from crashing my car into another driver due to his incompetence. I am risking my life as well as my children’s.”

A Car Accident Shouldn’t Be A ‘Catalyst For Action’

He believes that the action will stop fatalities and that measures should be taken before this happens. He added: “I don’t want an accident to be a catalyst for action.”

Mr Stevens also lives near the busy junction and says that every night he hears the squeal of brakes and cars getting hit outside his house. He said: “A couple of months ago there was a nasty accident where a car hit a bus because someone was trying to go right.

Mr Stevens does not believe there should be traffic lights on the junction though, he feels that it should be a roundabout with no right turn available and thinks that traffic lights would hold things up.

Road Traffic Accidents

There are hundreds of road traffic accidents every day on Britain’s roads. Reasons for these accidents are numerous. Third party negligence can often be the reason for an accident. This could be another car driver who is at fault, the driver of the car you are in or it could be the local authority who has not repaired the road adequately, for example.

If you have had an accident and third party blame can be clearly attributed then you could be able to make a successful compensation claim.

Car accident injuries can leave you with debilitating conditions which can mean you need to take time off work. For example, a severe whiplash injury can result in you needing several months off work in some cases. Psychological distress, paralysis, broken bones and head injuries can all happen in a road traffic accident.
