A 22 year old man who was involved in a 50 mph car crash had to have lifesaving reconstructive surgery to repair the 42 fractures in his face.
He was left blinded in one eye and suffered a punctured lung and a broken sternum after a catastrophic road accident in May last year.
As he was driving along a Nottinghamshire road a car came in from a side junction and smashed into him.
He was rushed immediately by air ambulance to Nottingham University Hospital where he had a 13 hour lifesaving operation.
The 22 year old male, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, smashed his face onto the steering wheel of his car.
The surgeons at Queen’s Medical Centre fitted wire meshing in his eye sockets, titanium plating in his cheekbones and his ear had to be sewn back on.
Face Had Been ‘Smashed To Be Bits’
The 22 year old said: “When I hit my head on the steering wheel, it knocked me out straight away but I am told I had crushed my nose, which had slipped down about two inches and the cartilage had burst out of my skin. I had smashed my face to bits”.
He said: ‘There was a big slice in the side of my head and my ear had been ripped off but lucky they managed to sew it back on in the 13 hour operation.’
Road To Recovery
The driver has shown his appreciation to the air ambulance that took him to the hospital crediting them with saving his life. He is now driving again and admits it has been difficult getting behind the wheel again. His miraculous Recovery also consists of a new business venture selling vintage and classic cars.
