An eight year old boy has been left clinging on to his life after a serious car accident in Hartlepool last weekend.

No reports have revealed the details of the accident but it is known that all emergency services were called to the scene of the incident immediately following the crash.

Anaesthetic was given to the youngster before he was put a on a road ambulance and taken to an airfield to be airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough. The road was closed while the boy was treated as anguished neighbours looked on at the scene.

He has now been described as being in a ‘critical but stable’ condition.

Emergency Services Present At The Accident Scene

An air ambulance spokesperson said: “The great North Air Ambulance was called to assist paramedics with an eight year old child who had been knocked over.” They added: “The child sustained serious head injuries. He was anaesthetised at the scene by the air ambulance doctor before being flown to the James Cook University Hospital which took just five minutes. His condition is critical.”

Cleveland police also said they would like witnesses to come forward if they saw anything. A spokesperson said: “Anyone who has not spoken to police already and who saw what happened should get in touch with us.”

A fire brigade officer said: “We were called to stand by paramedics in case they needed any assistance. “The road ambulance took the boy from Irvine Road to an open area in Owton Manor Lane and he was loaded onto the helicopter.”
