To highlight the dangers of unsafe motorbikes and other two motorised two wheel vehicles Halton Borough council’s Youth team is holding an event in Widnes to bring more information on bike safety to light. The occasion will also form part of the council’s action [plan to improve opportunities for young people in the area.

It is being held during half term week when many people start to consider going out on the road again with their motorbike or scooter. Cheshire police will also be making an appearance to tell their side of the story when they see motorbikes involved in road accidents and the damage an unsafe bike can do to riders, passengers and other roads users.

Present at the event will also be Cheshire Cobras scooter group who will be meeting up with others at the event for a ride out and there will also be other people attending to give advice on motorcycle safety law

Motorcycle Safety Tips

Below are a few simple safety tips to take note of before you get your bike out for the new season:

  • Prepare your motorcycle by checking the oil and filter; checking the tread on your tyres and replacing where needed; making sure your lights and electrics are in full working order; give the chassis a thorough inspection by examining the condition of the frame, checking for loose and missing pins and bolts and ensuring it is lubricated
  • When you are riding your motorbike, make sure that you are careful and slow down on bends; practice braking and getting used to the power of your engine; don’t ride your bike if you are not feeling 100% and do not give in to pressure from other people to ride in a way you are not comfortable with
  • Always wear a helmet; long sleeved jacket; gloves and appropriate footwear with good grip
  • If you are carrying weight then make sure this is distributed as evenly as possible. It is advisable to refer to your owner’s manual and also check for the weight limits, ensuing you are not exceeding it
