Motorcycle Accident Claim For £4.65m is Launched

A West-Midlands man has begun his battle to secure £4.65m compensation for an horrific motorcycle accident which severed his left leg.

5 years ago, John Brown, from Tamworth was working as a paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service when he became involved in a collision with a van which cut across his path. Mr Brown said the driver’s doorpost acted like a ‘guillotine’ when it cut off his leg.

An off-duty police man was first at the scene to apply pressure to the broken artery before emergency services arrived.

The van driver’s insurers have admitted responsibility but do not believe the figure should be as high as £4.65 million. It has suggested a lower amount of £1.6 million.

How the claim is broken down

The compensation figure that Mr Brown has asked for reflects the amount he believes will allow him to continue with the life he had prior to the accident:

  • £700,000 for a home which has been adapted for his physical needs
  • £140,000 for biking holidays
  • Around £700,000 for motorcycles which have especially modified for his disability
  • £500,000 in loss of earnings
  • £300,000 for prosthetics

Mr Brown, 50, would like to carry on with his biking hobby up until his seventies, like his father has.

He now works voluntarily as a driver for the ambulance service. He says he was passionate about his job and as well as biking.

He added: “It seems a very silly thing to get upset about but I loved that job. There is very little in my life these days that compares to the satisfaction I got from that job.

The case continues.
