Lower The Limit Say Drink Driving Campaigners

As the statistics continue to pour in following a national anti-drink-driving campaign, more tension is piling on the government to reduce the legal alcohol limit.

Driving under the influence of drink is known as one of the causes of road accidents and as such, there have been numerous measures to try and tackle this issue over the years. The latest Christmas campaign which ran throughout the whole of December across the UK, has revealed that although the number of people being over the limit when stopped has dropped, there is still a concern that many people continue to get behind the wheel while under the influence of drink.

Increase In Fatal Road Accidents Caused By Drink Driving Says RoSPA

Kevin Clinton, head of road safety at RoSPA said: “The provisional estimate for people killed in drink-drive accidents in the UK, in 2012, shows an increase from the previous year. There were 280 deaths and 1,210 people seriously injured, contributing to almost 10,000 casualties in total, so we must do more to tackle this problem.”

Mr Clinton also pointed out that in Scotland and Ireland new laws have brought the limit down from 80 mg to 50 mg of blood to 100 ml of alcohol and advised that this should be rolled out across the UK.

Drugs Also Cause Road Accidents

The results of the study also showed a rise in the number of drivers who had taken drugs while behind the wheel. Figures also showed that in 2012 there were 32 people killed and 250 people injured while under the influence of illicit or medicinal drugs.

Imminent laws surrounding drug taking while driving will make it easier for police officers to identify and take action.

Claiming Compensation For A Road Accident

Car accidents caused by any number of factors, including an accident caused by a drink driver, can cause life changing injuries for victims. If the accident was not your fault then it is possible you could make a personal injury claim.

It’s possible you may have been unable to continue in work following an accident or your injuries may have meant that you or your family has had to spend money on medical assistance, e.g. home adaptation or physiotherapy.
